Because exercise by its nature exaggerates movement, it
also magnifies any problems or misfits you might encounter with the design of the equipment you are using.
To avoid injury in tennis
and racquetball, pay special attention to the following three variables and be sure that these fit both your body and your
game:
■ The weight of the racket (in tennis, for example, this can vary from 9 ounces to 12.5 ounces unstrung)
■ Stringing tension (55 to 78 pounds per square inch)
■ Grip size (in tennis, again, grip sizes range from 3 7⁄8 to 4 5⁄8)
If
your needs do not match your racquet, you could develop wrist, elbow, or shoulder tendonitis as a consequence. Talk with a
tennis or racquetball coach or trainer to get advice on purchasing a racket appropriate for your level of play.
